1780 June 1. Thomas Sennet to Laban Kelly 200, 75 acres, beg at sweet gum at Sennet's line then along the dismal to Jacock's line, NW to Wolf Pit Branch. Wit: John Moore, Benjamin Gurkin. Nov Term 1792 by oath of John Moore [Bft DB 6 (1786-93), 436-37]

1781/86. Recorded 6 Feb 1781. Order to be surveyed 14 March 1786. Charles Gurkin. 100 acres Bft, N side Pamplico R and S side Rossey Swamp joining Jaycoxes line to the sd swamp. [Haun, Bft Land Entries, 139 (365)]

1788 July 10. State Grant #269 to Jeremiah Gurkin. 100 acres in Bft Co N side Pungo Swamp, beg at a poplar on side of sd swamp Edward Phelps corner tree running N 5 W 72 poles to a pine then W 150 poles to a pine then S 5 W 134 poles to a gum at the swamp then the various courses of sd swamp to beginning. 1790 Feb 9. John Hampleton and John Moore, both of Beaufort Co, jointly sell land E side of Pamplico Road adjoining of Cedar Swamp to Benjamin Gurkin Sr and to his heirs forever. Beg at a pine at S end of sd Gurkin's fence running S 10 W to the Cedar Swamp then S 15 E to the main dismal then N 10 E as many poles as to bring the S end of Jackson Island fence in a direct course to Eleazer Jackson's beginning pine and from thence to the beginning for a complement of 75 acres of land. 1790 September 13. Amos Waters to William Waters, 30, 195 acres land on a ridge in Long Acre known by the name of Piney Ridge joining to the Chinquepin Ridge beginning at a pine of his own line. 1793 March 18. Entered. State Grant 586 to Benjamin Gurkin. 25 acres lying in the Cedar Swamp beginning at a pine on the S side of Wollards corner running with his line S 45 W 86 poles to a pine in Wollard's line then N 35 W 38 poles to a Branch and then N 7 E 82 poles to the side of the swamp then up the same N 73 W 48 poles to Jacksons corner then N 2 W crossing the swamp 60 poles to a pine in the N side thereof then down the Cedar Swamp its various courses to the Pocoson then to the first station Signed 19 June 1798 at Raleigh by Sam'l Ashe. 1794 9 July. State Grant #444 to Zachariah Gurkin. 100 acres N side Cedar Swamp beg at a pine in standing on Pamplico Road the beg of Benj. Gerkins [deceased?] running the sd Benj. Girkins line S 10 W 140 poles to a pine then S 27 W 40 poles to a pine then N 64 W 23 poles to a pine then N 19 E 38 poles to a pissimmon standing near Benjamin Gerkins house then W 92 poles to a pine then N 10 E 120 poles to a gum branch and with the various courses of the run of sd Branch to the beginning. 1795 Feb 9. Benjamin Gurkin John Hampleton, both of Beaufort County, to Eliazer Jackson, 60 acres on E side of Edenton road between Cedar Swamp and Gum Branch beginning at a pine exact halfway the swamp between the island and the out land running S 75 E so as to run along side of the fence on the S end of sd island and to contain to the back line of the old patent of Hambleton then with the back line running N 10 E to the corner and then with back line to a pine in sd island swamp halfway the swamp to the beginning. 1795 Oct 19. Jeremiah Gurkin to William Osborn, both of Beaufort County. for 16 4s, 100 acres land N side Pamlico R and N side Pungo Swamp beginning at a poplar on the side of said swamp, Edward Phelps corner running N 5 W 72 poles to a pine, W 150 poles to a pine, thence S 5 134 poles to a gum in the swamp thence the various courses of the sd swamp to the beginning. Jeremiah X Gurkin. Wit: Appleton Squires, Jesse Warters, Thomas Warters. Dec Term 1796 proved in court by oath of Thomas Waters. Test: Henry Ellison, CC. 1798. Entered 18 March 1793, signed 11 June 1798, recorded 20 May 1806. State of NC to Benjamin Gerkin. 25 acres lying in the Cedar Swamp beginning at a pine on the S side thereof, Woolards corner, running with his line S 45 W 86 poles to a pine in Woolards line then N 35 W 38 poles to a branch then N 7 E 82 poles to the side of the swamp then up the same N 73 W 48 poles to the side of the swamp then up the same N 73 W 48 poles to Jacksons corner then N 2 W crossing the swamp 60 poles to a pine in the N side thereof then down the Cedar Swamp its various courses to the Pocossin then to the first station. Jim's notes say that this land was deeded to Zachariah Gurkin in 1831. Zachariah and wife Sarah sold land in 1878, recorded 1880 to George Latham and heirs. Bft DB 48, 207.

1799 Aug 20. Benjamin Gurkin Sr to Benjamin Gurkin Jr., his son, part of patent of 150 acres given by James Hampleton to his daughter, my wife Mary [see 1758 deed] I give after my decease to my son Benjamin, also the land contained on the deed given by John Hampleton and John Moore to me the sd Benjamin Gurkin Sr with the courses of the patent and deed as follow...the course of the patent beginning at the S side of the Gum Branch on the Pamlico Road running S 10 W so far on that line as will contain his part of the land in the patent, the course of the deed above ? beginning at a pine at the S end of sd Gurkins fence running S 10 W to the Cedar Swamp then S 75 E to the Main Dismal then N 10 E as many poles as to bring the S end of Jacksons Island fence in a direct course to Eleazer Jackson beginning pine and from thence to the beginning for a complement of 75 acres of land. 1800 Sept 7. Michael Woolard to Zachariah Girkin, both of Beaufort County, 100, 100 acres which was purchased by the sd Jackson [sic] of Wm Farris and Wm McDaniel, executors of William Grove, Dec'd...laying on the N side of Pamlico River and on the road to Edenton...beg on the W side of Cypress Branch at a pine by the side of Cypress Branch running W 60 W 80 poles to a pine then N 40 E 200 poles down the Cedar Swamp, thence S 40 E 80 poles down the Cypress Swamp, with the meanders of the Cypress Swamp to the beg. 1800 December. Suit of Zachariah Gurkin against Coventon Wollard. Plaintiff was non-suited. Coventon Wollard recovered court costs of 7 4s 7d and for these costs a piece of property of Zachariah Gurkin was to be sold. Beg at W side Cypress Branch at a pine by the side of the Cypress Branch running W 60 W 80 poles to a pine N 40 E 200 poles down to the Cedar Swamp S 40 E 80 poles down to the Cypress Swamp then with the meanders of Cypress Swamp to beginning. 100 acres. Michael Wollard Jr bid 7 4s 7d and was the highest bidder. He got land. Now this indenture. Stephen Owens, Sheriff to Michael Woolard Jr, the above land. 6 June 1804. Wit: Wm Boyd, H. Blount. It is hereby agreed that 15 acres land sold by Zachariah Gurkin should be excepted out of this conveyance.

1801 June 8. Michael Wollard to Eleanor Gurkin and Benjamin Gurkin and Harmon Gurkin, heirs of Zachariah Gurkin, for 7 14s 4d, 100 acres which sd Wollard purchased of Thomas Jackson on road to Edenton...W side Cypress Branch...Cedar Swamp. Wit: Wm Boyd [witness to 1800 will of Benj Gurkin], Wm Perkins. I agree that 15 acres sold by Zachariah Gurkin should be excepted. Sept Term 1804, William Boyd. [Bft DB 8, 79]

1802 May 31. Thomas Wallis to Richard Gurkin. for 25, 100 acres.
On the S side of Ropers Swamp beg at a pine on the N county road Jesse Rowland corner on the Ready Branch then with his line on Coleman Woolards line to the back line on or near Levi Stubbs line to the corner a pine then with the line of Walter Jones patent to the upper corner & then to the beginning of the patent on Jones line and then with the Jesse Rollins line to the beginning. 1804 July 6. Harmon Gurkin to Benjamin Gurkin, uncle of sd Harmon, both of Beaufort County. For a horse named Steward & my note of hand that I gave at the vendue of my uncle Zachariah for articles bid off given up to me on or before the ensealing of these presents. Harmon gave up all right to land that fell to him at the death of his uncle Zachariah Gurkin. Also all the right or claim he had to any part of the perishable estate of sd Gurkin.

1804 Aug 18. Benjamin Gurkin & Eleanor Gurkin heirs of Zachariah Gurkin dec'd agree that Benjamin is to give up tract on S side Cedar Swamp known as Hambletons old place to Eleanor. Eleanor gives up right to estate of her brother Zachariah dec'd as well also the right he bought of Harmon Gurkin the other heir. Wit: Wm Boyd, John Moore. [Bft DB 8, 95]
She gave up her part of land that Michael Woolard had sold them.

1806. Benjamin Gurkin received a land grant in Bft Co from State of NC This was entered in 1793. See 1793 for description.

1812 Oct 9. a grant to Alderson Waters of 50 acres near Benjamin Gurkin and Letty Gardners line, edge of island swamp, Cedar Swamp. Reg 18 Aug 1817. [Bft DB 12, 3]

1817 Feb 25. Letty X Gardner to Benjamin Gurkin. 100 acres N side
Cedar Swamp on Edenton Road, Island Swamp, county road main road, Benjamin Gurkins line. Includes deed from John Moore Jr to George Dixon [Dixon is Benjamin's brother-in-law] also another deed from sd Moor to James Hampleton for 25 acres. Wit: Wm Boyd, Sam Hawkins. 1819 Sept 1. Richard Gurkin and Wm Boyd to Jesse Rowland, $30, 100 acres near Jesse Rollin, Walter Jones and Colman Wollard. beginning at a pine on Walter Jones corner running with sd line to Jessie Rowlands line and with his sd line to Coleman Woolards line and with sd Woolards line to the corner thence W 230 poles to a pine then to the beginning, having reference to Patent of sd Richard Gurkin and W. 1821 Dec 15. Charles Moore, Martin Co. to Benjamin Girkin, Bft for $50, land in Bft Co on the main road that leads from Washington to Plymouth, a piece of land that his father left him in his will. 1822 Jan 19. Ann Moore to Benjamin Gurkin, Both of Bft Co. for $50, 50 acres land adjacent to land of James Moore bounded as follows: Beg at James Moore's S corner on the S line of the patent running with the S line of the patent as far as will contain 50 acres then E across the patent to the back line then with the back line to James Moore's corner then with James Moore's line to the beginning. 1822 Oct 7. Wm Sexton to James Girkin, $50, 37 acres...beg at sweet gum Henry McDonaks corner tree... N side Deep Branch running S 58 E 120 poles to McDonacks other corner, a pine then S 54 W 32 poles to Samuel Ward's corner a pine, then N 75 W 136 poles to the deep Branch then down the sd branch to first station. Wit: Robert Cutler, Wm Cutler. May Term 1827 by Robert Cutler. [Bft DB 14, 340] Sells this Feb 29, 1829 to Henry E. Windley.

1825 Nov 14. Alderson Waters to Charles Ghurkin [son of Benjamin of 1831 will], both of Bft Co, for $50, 30 acres...known as Thomas Jackson's patent beg on S side of Round Pond near Elendor [Eleanor]Gurkin's line running thence westerly with a line of marked trees to the back line of the patent then southwardly with patent line as far as will conclude 30 acres thence with Elender Girkins line to first station. 1826 Jan 12. Benjamin Gurkin for $40 to Alderson Waters, both of Bft Co. 90 acres Land beginning in Laban Kelly's line, then N 47 W 120 poles to a pine then S 39 W 120 poles to a pine on the swamp then S 47 E 120 poles to a pine on another swamp then with sd swamp to the beginning. This was land granted Thomas Jackson by the state 27 June 1793. Benjamin X Girkin. Wit: Charles Gurkin, Bethuel Gurkin. Bft Court Aug Term 1831 proved by oath of Bethuel Gerkin. 1829 Feb 24. James Ghurkin sold land he had purchased of Wm Sexton to Henry E. Windley, for $50. 37 acres. Wit: Miles Everett and Elizabeth Everett. May Term 1829 by oath of Miles Everett. [Bft DB 15, 233]

1829 March 26. Bryan Hampleton to William Ghurkin [son of Frederick] $25, 90 acres Fork of Roper Swamp N side of S prong of sd Swamp, beg on the N side of the S prong of sd swamp at a pine running N 28 E 178 poles to a pine, then N 78 E 46 poles to a pine, then S 12 E 14 poles to a bay on sd swamp, and from there the sd courses of sd swamp to the beginning. 1830 December 8. Will of Benjamin Gurkin.

1831 Nov 11. Beaufort Co. Bethuel Girkin had several debts to Joseph Bonner and L. W. Lucas, with interest and to Richard H. Bonner, adminis of estate of Asa Hawkins. His securites for these debts were his brother Charles Gurkin, Redding Gradeless, Thomas Barrow. He sold Charles Girkin 50 acres of land adjoining the lands of Zachariah Judkins, Joseph Waters, and Charles Gerkin, 10 head of cattle, 20 head of hogs, 2 beds and other furniture, 1 desk, 2 chests, 6 plates, 6 knives and forks, 1 ax, 1 cart, all my coopers tools. Charles is his attorney to sell his property and pay debts. Signed Bethel Gurkin, Charles Gurkin. Wit: Samuel Vines.
Whereas I Bethel Girkin have been informed by George Boyd, Exec of last W & T of Benj Gerkin that upon a settlement of the estate of sd Benjamin I will inherit 40 acres. This is to go to Charles. The previous 50 acres had already been sold to settle debts.

1836 Dec 16. Zachariah Gurkins for $500 to Levy Stubbs, [II] land beg at a little ditch between the house formerly owned by my father Benjamin Gherkin and Isaac Jackson leading into the swamp near the house of sd Benjamin straight across to the W line of the patent...Cedar Swamp. Also another tract beginning at a ditch near house of Father Benjamin Gerkin to the run of Gum Swamp. Another tract of 75 acres called and known by the name of Jackson Island. The above described lands being devised to me by my father Benjamin Gherkin in his last Will and Testament 8 Dec 1830. Zachariah Ghurkin. Wit: Arnet Waters, James Daniel. 1837 June 8. William Kelly to Frederick Waters, $65, 25 acres beg at a pine John Barrows corner running N to the Swamp...out of Forked Swamp...across the main road. Wit: Will Eborn, E. Gerham. Sept Term by Wm Kelly. [Bft DB 19, 170]

1841 Aug 28. Thomas Barrow of Beaufort Co, for $29 viz one horse, $1 for one yearling, $3.50 for one ditto, $3.50 for one cow and calf, $7 for 5 head of hogs, $12.50 for one cart, $2.02 to me in hand paid by Rotheas Gurkins. Wit: Alfred Scott. June Court 1842.

1842 Feb 26. Reding, Bethuel & Zachariah Gurkin to John Latham. 2 tracts of land (100 acres) for $100 lying on N side Pamlico R in a point between the dismall and Cypress Branch near Jacks line called and known by the name of Pastras Point in the patent from the state to Thomas Sinnett...beg at a pine on the W side of the main dismal in or near a point running south by W 130 poles to a gum then W by N 45 poles to the Cypress Branch then with the Cypress Branch N by E 130 poles to the main dismal then with the main dismal to the first beginning...and also all of that tract lying on the N side of Pamlico R and S side of the Cedar Swamp beg at Sinnetts S corner on the cypress branch running 72 W 34 poles through the branch to a pine then N 18 E up the branch 34 poles then N 5 W 16 poles to a pine then N 21 E 42 poles to a pine then N 12 E 40 poles to a pine then N 30 E 54 poles to Benjamin Girkins corner of his old patent then S 75 E with his old line 84 poles to ?hobs the sd Gurkins corner of his old patent then S 25 W 28 poles to a pine then SE 8 poles Sennetts other corner on the Dismall now Girkins then N 55 W with Girkins line 24 poles to the mouth of Cypress Branch and to the first station. 1842 May 16. Asa Gherkins to James Gherkins. A debt (trust) $5.00 to Joseph Potts $20 and Henry B. Clark $13.00. Asa sold James his right to a lot in the town of Washington W side of the ally running up from the end of Water Street now in possession of sd Asa. James can sell land to pay creditors. Asa X Ghurkins, James Gherkins. Sworn to May 31, 1842 in clerk's office. [Bft DB 21, 277]

1843 March 27. James Gerkin to Peter G. Yeats, both of Bft Co. For $150, land beginning at a cypress on the S side of Pamlico River and E side of Hills Point at the River and runs S 45 W with William Gurganus' line to the School House Branch 260 poles thence down sd branch to a water oak Otes Gurganus corner thence a straight line to a cypress on the River standing near said James Gerkins' landing thence down the sd river to the beginning.

1847 Oct 13. Elender Gherkin to Wintfield Waters, both of Beaufort Co. For $6.00, 5 acres of land beg at a pine in Elender Gherkins line in a bottom on the N side of the School House running with the School House line to the Branch then with the Branch to the old line and then with the old line to the beginning. Elender X Gherkin. Wit: Alderson X Waters, Levi Stubbs. Bft Co Probate Court. Deed from Elender Gherkin to Winfield Waters was 4 April 1869 proved before the undersigned Judge of Probate by oath and exam of Levi Stubbs one of the subscribing witnesses thereto. 1848 Sept 18. Asa Gerkins and wife Ann to Henry W. Gaylord, all of Bft Co. for $15.00, all rights to 100 acres, parcel of land N side Pamlico River and N side of Cinclairs Creek Mill Run beginning in run of swamp at Cinclairs to Joseph Keech's patent...Mallisons line. 1850 Aug 14. Starkey Wallace, Horris Gherkin, M Gerkins, all of Bft Co. $26.00. 1/2 paid by Starkey Wallace. Have sold to Horris Gherkins and Melissen? 1869 March 20. Petition of Charles Gherkin of Bft Co to Lewis H. Padgett Esq. Charles Gherkin desires benefit of Homestead and Personal Property Exemption by 10th article of State Constitution. F. B. Satterthwaite is his attorney. James R. Daniels, Levi Stubbs, and Henry S. Latham, disinterested freeholders, are to meet 23 March 1869 at Charles Gerkin's house to lay off a homestead for him. They met and the homestead began at W side of Cypress Branch at a pine running thence N 60 W 80 poles to a pine then N 40 E to a bottom near the School House then down sd bottom to the Cypress Branch then with sd Branch to the beginning. 50 acres in Long Acre District including the farm and houses and premises whereon sd Charles Gherkin now resides and which does not exceed in value $1000.00. 1870 April 5. Sheriff of Bft Co Superior Court: William N. Swain vs Charles Gherkins, #311. Levied execution on Charles' land 14 Feb 1870 and sold the land 5 April 1870. Swain the highest bidder. For $125.00, 1 parcel of 100 acres of land on N side River on road from Washington to Plymouth Stage Road, beg in W side of Cypress Branch at a pine running N 60 W 80 poles to a pine N 40 E 200 poles down Cedar Swamp S 45 E 80 poles down to Cypress Branch then in meanders of sd Branch to the beginning. Also 1 other parcel in the Thomas Jackson Patent, registered 1 May 1792, bounded by lands of Richard Waters, Wm N. Swain, Laben Kelly's heirs, and by the first parcel. Cutler, Bft Co, for $200.00, 100 acres N [sic] side Pamplico River on River beg at Cypress Stump on river shore just above James Gherkins landing now known as Hills Fort wharf and a corner of the lands of the sd Cutler and then runs with the line of sd George B. Cutler round to what is now known as the corner of Robert D. Barr and the sd Cutler then N 45 E to Wm Gherkins corner a pine then with sd Gherkins line to his 2nd corner a post oak then with sd Gherkin's line to what is known as the Blount line then with Blount's line the various courses to the river with river to the beginning, which piece of land was conveyed by Peter G. I James Latham of 2nd part for $50, 50 acres, it being for a certain tract of land in Bft bounded as follows. N side Pamplico River in township of Long Acre N side Fork Swamp beg in a branch known as the Fox Pond running nearly W with George J. Wallis line to Hoyt N. Waters line and with sd Hoyt N. Waters line to a pine marked as a corner in H. N. Water's line and then from sd corner back so as to run nearly parallel with first line to a corner in a pine and to the first station. And for the better security of Horace Gurkin and his heirs, I James Latham assign the land to Horace Gurkin and his heirs out of the love and respect I have for William Gurkin except in the above tract of land so much fire wood as is necessary for the family's use of William Gurkin during his natural life. 1875 Oct 30. Hoyett N. Gerkin & wife Polly Jane [Singleton] to John G. Brinn, all of Bft Co, for $50, their interest in Samuel L. Singleton's land (he had purchased it of William H. Davis). Their 1/2 part. William H. Davis had bought it of S. S. Satchwell Commission appointed by it to sell land belonging to Joseph D. Satchwell dec'd. Land consisted of 300 acres between Pungo and Pantego Creek called Schooner Point. Land was adjoining to land of Samuel W. Hollowell, Alderson E. Whitley and others. Signed Hoyet N. 1877 August 22. Mortgage. Eli H. Gurkin, Bft Co, to Louis Braddy, Bft Co. For $10, 92 acres land N side Pamplico River above Mallard Creek beg at a Cypress standing at river at a bunch of currant bushes running a direct line out back with Arthur Braddy's line until it strikes a small branch between 2 islands thence with this branch til it departs the direct course pursuing the direct course or courses first here taken to the back line which is the back line taken in a deed from Riley Eborn to Thomas Barrow thence with the various courses of the conveyances from Riley Eborn to Thomas Barrow round to the river thence down the river to the beginning. Woolards corner...running with his line S 45 W 86 poles to a pine in Woolards line; then N 35 W 38 poles to a branch; then N 7 E 82 poles to the side of the swamp; then up the swamp N 73 W 48 poles to Jacksons corner; then N 2 W crossing the swamp 60 poles to a pine in the N side thereof; then down the Cedar Swamp, its various courses, to the pocosin; then to the 1st station. 1878 Aug 27. Isaih W. Jackson of the one part and Francis Gurkin, [widow of Bethuel Gurkin] Lois Jackson, Levi Stubs and wife Mary E. [Jackson] Stubbs of the other part, all of Beaufort Co, being owners in common in a certain tract of land being desirous of dividing sd lands. The dividing line to begin at a gum in Dam Branch and to run S 62 1/2 E 42 poles to a branch then with sd branch S 30 W 35 yards thence S 62 1/2 E 118 poles to Wediggen Waters line the sd Isaiah W. Jackson taking all on the S side and the other parties that the N side of sd line. Exception: Land known as Bee frount patent to remain in common stock. 1882 Mar 18. Bft Mortgage. Rufus & Sarah Gerkins bought a sorrel mule valued at $125 from C M Brown to be paid November 1882. As collateral they used the following...All the following piece or parcel of land lying and being in the 95 acres and known and designated as follows; My farm in Long Acre Township adjoining the lands of Nelson Waters, Jethro S. Habourn and others and upon which I now live containing 95 acres more or less. Also one sorrel mule this day purchased of sd Brown and my entire crop of cotton, corn, rice to be raised during the year 1882. Also one large brown ox, two cows, four feather beds and my household and kitchen furniture. [Bft DB 52, 247]
This land sold at public auction Sept 21, 1891 by C M Brown to Authur Mayo for $100.

1883 March 26. T. W. Phillips and wife Virginia A. of Bft Co to James E. Gurkins of Hyde for $600.00, 75 acres, our interest in deed from J. C. Jarvis and wife Nancy to Mary A. Davis 5 March 1881 and registered in Bk 51, pages 184-86, Dec 10, 1881. Land in Beaufort County, Pantego Township adjoining the land of the Whitley heirs and others. Reg 30 March 1885. [Bft DB 58 (1885), 511]. Does this tie in with Hoyt Gurkin and the Singleton land? Whitley is mentioned in both deeds.

1883 July 2. Lands of Ropheus Gurkin sold at public auction. ...failure to pay taxes of $6.48 plus a $.50 Deed fee on 427 acres in Long Acre Township...when and where the county of Beaufort became the purchaser at the sum of $6.48 and has paid the said sum and the owners of sd lands and tenants having failed to redeem same. 1883 Sept 22. Heirs at law of Mary Gurkins dec'd to Hoyet Gurkins, all of Bft Co. That the sd Mary E. Gurkins, Eliza Gurkins, Israel Wallace, Rhoda A. Wallace, Harriet M. Gurkins, William W. Gurkins, Elizabeth Gurkins, Benjamin N. Ratliff, Emelie L. Ratliff heirs at law of Mary Gurkins dec'd have sold Hoyett, for $20, 20 acres land N side Forked swamp in Edmond Smithwick Patent whereon William Gurkins now lives, known as land give by Amos Waters to Mary Harris, also lying in the NE corner of named patent. It is further provided that the single life of Mary E. Gurkins and Matilda Gurkins be and the same is excepted in aforementioned land.

1884 July 18. Hoyett & Polly Jane Gurkin to John G. Brinn for $60...a certain piece or portion of land known as our interest in the land of Samuel Singleton bought by the sd Samuel Singleton of Wm H. Davis, it being our half of the land which Wm H. Davis bought of S. S. Satchwell commission appointed by the court to sell the said land belonging to Joseph D. Satchwell, Dec'd containing 300 acres and being between Pungo Creek and Pantego Creek the boundaries of which will more fully appear by reference to former deeds and conveyances, the said land is known and called the Schooners point land adjoining the land of Samuel W. 1885. Marcellus Stubbs [a son of Amariah and Frances Woolard Stubbs] sold 50 acres of land in Bft to Levi Stubbs Jr. The land was formerly owned by Benjamin Gurkin and was willed to his daughter Lovee Davis during her life and known and described as the Charles Moore land adjoining the lines of Amariah Stubbs [Bft DB 60, 295]

1886 Jan 23. Hoyt Ghurkins & wife Polly Jane of Bft Co to Prentes S. Waters, for $75.00, 16 acres land adj Prentes S. Waters and others beginning at a pine stump in Ready Branch and known the Edmond Smithwick patent corner then running the ---? of Ready Branch to a line between Prentes Waters and Hoyt Gurkins which was previously made by Whitfield giving Mary Harris a deed for the same tract of land thence running with sd line to a W ward corner thence N to the center of a school house branch and with the center of sd branch to the beginning. William Gurkin died between this date and May 20, 1894 deed 1888 June 11. J. H. D. Gurkins, Bft Co, to Roanoke RR and Lumber Co. for $250.00, 200 acres land in Long Acre N 70 W 103 poles to Ropers Swamp then N 24 E 40 poles to Washington and Plymouth Road 1/2 mile to Charles Gurkins line S 65 E to marked gum N 25 E 36 poles N 18 W 30 poles S 65 E 40 poles S 73 E 50 poles ...main dismall. This is same land Step. Owen, Sheriff, sold to James R. Daniels by deed date June 5, 1827 in Bk 15, page 209. James R. Daniels willed it to J. H. D. Gurkins which will is in the Bft Co Clerks Office. Wit: Jno. H. Small. Reg 21 June 1888. In Book 73, 328, J. H. D. Gurkin says he was a minor and that Thomas J. Waters was his security. He was 21 December 4, 1889. on 8 January 1890 he finished sale.
